Unboxed on the concrete to check it over before going outside. Top-down you see the wide stance, suspension arms, rear wing and chunky tyres, with the pistol controller beside it. Metal drivetrain parts and the aluminium chassis plate feel solid, not toy-grade. The set includes the truck, 2.4GHz controller and two rechargeable batteries.

Green one's proper good fun on the front lawn. Full-time four-wheel drive pulls over rough grass and bumps, and the knobby tyres dig in rather than spin. The independent suspension with front and rear shocks soaks up the lumps, and the LED headlights come on straight away. At 1:16 it's a solid size for a teen. Quick and tough.

The metal differential, gears and centre drive shaft, plus 15 ball bearings and metal steering knuckles, give it a tighter feel over rough ground. Double-wishbone suspension with front and rear shocks handles ruts well, and the RC380 motor pulls reliably. A proper starter off-road truck.

Mostly happy, but plan around the charging time. The two batteries give a combined 35-40 minutes driving, and each takes about 4 to 4.5 hours to charge. On grass and bumps the stated runtime drops a bit more, which is normal for this class. Four-wheel drive climbs our gravel patch and the suspension soaks up hits. Four stars mainly for the charge time.
