At a glance
Up to 40 km/h with full-time 4WD.
2.4GHz proportional control with a stated range of up to 80 m.
High, medium and slow speed settings, with steering and speed trim.
Two 7.4V 1500mAh rechargeable vehicle batteries.
Double-wishbone independent suspension and front and rear spring shock absorbers.
An RC390 brushed motor with an aluminium heat sink drives the truck. Metal drivetrain components, 16 ball bearings, a 17 g steering servo and a rear wheelie bar support the driving setup. The LED headlights have three modes.
Battery and charging
The supplied two vehicle batteries provide a stated combined runtime of approximately 35–40 minutes. Charging time is approximately 4–4.5 hours. Speed, range and runtime vary with terrain, driving style and battery condition.
Splash protection
The integrated 30A ESC/receiver is specified as IPX4 splash-resistant. This rating applies to that component and does not mean the whole vehicle can be submerged. Avoid immersion and standing water.

Got the green one and it looks mean on the driveway. Took it out on the concrete path this arvo and the four-wheel drive pulls nicely over the bumps, with the high, medium and slow speed switch easy to flick on the pistol controller. The LED headlights came on straight away and look the part in the afternoon sun. Proportional steering feels smooth rather than on-off, and the knobby tyres grip the paved surface well. Solid little truck - my son and I have been out with it every weekend since it arrived.
Picked the green shell and it looks sharp on the living room floor before we even took it outside. Top-down you can see the wide stance, the suspension arms and the rear wing, and the body clips hold the shell down firmly. Ran it around the house first to get used to the controller - the steering and speed trims sorted it in a couple of minutes, and the proportional controls made it easy to learn. Once outside it's quick enough to be exciting, but the slow setting keeps it manageable on the footpath. Great starter truck for a teen.
Red version, and the colour pops more than I expected from the listing. Unboxed it on the lounge floor and the first thing you notice is how chunky the knobby tyres and suspension arms are - the double-wishbone setup has real travel when you press the body down. The box had the truck, pistol controller and the two batteries all together, and the chassis feels solid rather than flimsy plastic. Took it outside once charged and it climbed our gravel strip without bogging down. Happy with the build quality.
Bought this for my son's 15th birthday and he was rapt. It's listed for ages 14 and up, which suited him perfectly, and the 1:16 truck feels proper rather than a tiny toy. Our backyard is a mix of grass and pavers and it handles both with the four-wheel drive, and having two rechargeable batteries means one can be charging while he runs the other. He's still getting the hang of full speed, but the medium setting keeps things controlled. Really pleased with the gift.
As someone who's been into RC for a while, this 16102 punches well above its price point. The RC390 brushed motor with the aluminium heat sink stays settled after longer runs, and the metal drivetrain components plus the 16 ball bearings give it a much tighter feel than the cheap toy-grade trucks I've owned. The 17g steering servo holds a line well, and the rear wheelie bar keeps things tidy on take-off. Proportional throttle and steering on the 2.4GHz controller make it feel like a proper starter hobby rig. Worth a look if you're stepping up from a basic RC car.
Good truck overall, but worth knowing the charging time before you buy. Each battery takes around 4 to 4.5 hours to charge, so you really need to plan around the second pack rather than expecting quick top-ups. On grass at full speed the stated runtime doesn't stretch as far as it does on hard ground, which is normal for this class of car. Once charged the four-wheel drive climbs our front path well, the suspension soaks up the bumps, and the steering trim got the truck running straight easily. Four stars because the charge time is the main downside; everything else feels solid.
This truck has been over dirt tracks, gravel and the rough grass at the back of our property, and the independent suspension with front and rear spring shocks handles the ruts far better than I expected. Full-time four-wheel drive keeps it moving even when one wheel slips, and the knobby tyres dig in on loose ground. The ESC/receiver is splash-resistant, so I've kept it off deep puddles and standing water as the listing advises - it's fine on damp grass but I wouldn't take it near a creek. Tough, capable and good fun off the bitumen.
We got this for our teenage son who'd never driven an RC car before, and the speed levels make it a really sensible first one. Start on slow to learn the steering, move to medium once he's confident, and high speed is there for when he's ready. The 2.4GHz controller held its signal without dropping out around the yard, and the steering trim dial sorted any slight pull to one side. He now drives it up and down the driveway with his mates, and the cars don't interfere with each other. Patient, well set-up truck for a learner.
I was surprised by how substantial it is once it's out of the box - at 30 x 23 x 11.5 cm and around 930 g it's a proper size rather than palm-sized, but still easy for a teenager to carry around. The chassis has survived a few off-track tumbles and the body shell hasn't cracked, and the big knobby tyres still look new after weeks of gravel runs. The wheelie bar at the back keeps the nose up under acceleration and stops it flipping over backwards. Good build, feels durable for daily backyard use.
Mostly happy with the truck, with one small frustration. The body shell clips are quite stiff when you first take the shell off, so I'd suggest reading the controller and trim instructions before you start pulling at anything. Once past that, the truck runs well - the suspension absorbs the bumps on our unsealed driveway, the proportional throttle responds smoothly, and the LED headlights have a few different modes for evening runs. It's a solid four-wheel drive at this level, just be gentle with the clips on day one.
Night runs around the driveway are the best part - the LED headlights have three modes and the brightest one lights up the path ahead properly. The truck handles our warm evenings easily, and the four-wheel drive powers over the uneven pavers without getting stuck. The controller feels comfortable in the hand and the speed trim lets you dial it in for the surface you're on. My mates come over and we take turns on the front lawn. Really enjoying it.
Ordered this as a treat for my brother and the two rechargeable batteries were a big part of why I picked it - swap one in when the other runs down and playtime carries on without a long wait. Out of the box the controller worked straight away, the body looks tough with the big tyres and rear wing, and the four-wheel drive handles the family paddock track. He uses it most weekends and still says it's the best present he's had this year. Good purchase from Heydays.
